about us

God loves you. He cares about you. He desires to help you. In fact, He has provided for you a wealth of life principles which, when applied daily, transform even the most difficult situation.

Every service offered by ALM seeks to encourage individuals in the discovery and application of these timeless truths. Whether youíre facing a crisis, or simply need to be better-equipped as a Christian, ALM wants to assist you.

Abundant Living Ministries was founded in 1978 by Lancaster County, PA natives Norman and Betty Charles. The Charles experienced overwhelming difficulties during their first thirteen years of marriage. In desperation, they turned to God for help.

In His Word, the Bible, they discovered practical principles which would help them dramatically with their problems. As they began to apply these truths, they witnessed miraculous improvements in their lives and marriage. Jesus Christ truly became their best friend!

Out of this transformation came the desire to share Jesusí help and hope with others. Responding to Godís call, they moved with their five children to Brazil in 1960, where they served as missionaries for ten years. Upon returning to the USA in 1971, Norman and Betty enjoyed increasing opportunities to share their testimony and faith in Christ.

As they enthusiastically told their story, they always gave the credit and praise to Jesus who had so radically changed their lives. Listeners responded by asking for prayer and advice. Over time, it became apparent that God was opening a door of ministry for them. This was a ministry of encouragement, prayer and counsel.

A Board of Directors was formed in 1978, a non-profit organization established and a country property purchased. Three of Norm and Betty's married children along with their families moved to Lititz to assist in launching ALM. A Few years later God called two of these families into missionary service in Brazil. Their primary focus was facilitating the counseling and speaking ministry of Norm and Betty. Soon, John and Sharon also became busily involved in both these ministries.

Norm passed away in 1994, moving from earth to his much-awaited home in heaven. Betty continued counseling women and speaking at seminars and retreats until her death in 2007. Their legacy lives on, through the wonderful group of caring people that serve today at ALM.
